As I mentioned in my previous post, people are too obsessed with it. You can compete with your competitors in other ways. In fact, in 2007 or 2008, Matt Cutts and co of Google actually talked about PR and how it's not as important as it used to be because they were so many crappy sites that just did lots of backlinking. There's actually another form of ranking that people should be using at now, which is about the quality of websites.
